To mark the 100th anniversary of the Lotus Case, the Museum and Lund’s Faculty of Law are publishing a unique collection of postcards and letters written by passengers on the SS Lotus between 1898 and 1931.
Written by pilgrims and poets, soldiers and scholars, royals and revolutionaries, these messages offer rare glimpses into everyday life during one of the most transformative periods of modern history.
The book’s afterword explores the significance of the Lotus postcard collection of the Museum of International Law for international lawyers.
The book will be published in early August 2026 but you can already read the introduction here: Introduction.
The postcard collection was edited by Valentin Jeutner and the book’s production was supported by a grant from the Rune and Lena Lavin Foundation for Legal Research in Lund.
